Head of State and Major of Ljubljana to Support the Atelier

A unique international event, the Atelier for Young Festival Managers, was launched on Sunday, 14th October at the Ljubljana Castle. The participants from almost 30 countries were greeted by Zoran Janković, Mayor of the City of Ljubljana. His support to the project, important both for the Slovenian capital and the entire county, also expressed the President of the Republic Dr Danilo Türk, who addressed the participants of the Atelier at its closing ceremony scheduled for 20th October in the Ljubljana City Hall.

The 5th Atelier for Young Festival Managers, taking place from 14th to 21st October, is hosted by Festival Ljubljana and  participated by 31 promising and talented artistic directors from 21 countries (mostly European, and also from Egypt, Palestine, United Arab Emirates and Australia). This Atelier's lecturers and mentors are innovative, experienced and renowned festival managers: Robyn Archer (Creative Director of the Centenary of Canberra, 2013, Artistic Director of the Light in Winter Melbourne), Hugo De Greef (Atelier General Coordinator, initiator of festivals and General Manager of Bruges European Capital of Culture, 2002), Bernard Faivre d’Arcier (President of the Lyon Dance Biennial, former Artistic Director of the Avignon Festival, Vice-Chair of the Academy of Arts in Berlin), Michał Merczyński (Director of Malta Festival in Poznan), Jonathan Mills (Festival Director and Chief Executive of the Edinburgh International Festival), Gerard Mortier (General Director of the Royal Theatre (Teatro Real) in Madrid, former Director of the Salzburg Festival (Salzburger Festspiele), former Director of the Ruhr Triennial) and Fruzsina Szép (Programme Director of the Sziget Festival in Hungary). The guest speakers at the Atelier will be Darko Brlek (Artistic and General Director of the Festival Ljubljana, EFA President) and Graham Sheffield (Director of the Arts British Council London and former Artistic Director of Barbican London). Kathrin Deventer, General Secretary of EFA, the association of 111 festivals, national festival associations and cultural networks from 43 countries will also honour the Atelier with her presence.
The Atelier for Young Festival Managers was initiated by EFA in Görlitz, Germany in 2006, whereas its later editions took place in Varna, Bulgaria (2009), Singapore (2011) and Izmir, Turkey (2011).
