Activities

Ljubljana Festival every year continues its mission – organising cultural events on a high artistic level. In the summer months we will join several operas, musicals and many concerts of chamber and symphony orchestras under the trademark The Ljubljana Festival 2013.

Beside the Summer Festival's events, the Ljubljana Festival every year prepares or takes part in the preparation of many other events which significantly contribute to the cultural atmosphere in the capital.

Among these, the Slovenian Musical Days should be mentioned; organized in the spring, they are divided into two parts: in the concert part pieces by Slovenian composers are performed while the symposium part gathers acknowledged musicologists from all over Europe. The Slovenian Musical Days are accompanied by round tables, exhibitions, book presentations, etc.

For many years Festival Ljubljana has been preparing a musical cycle called the Young Virtuosi where young Slovenian musicians are presented, mostly winners of the National Young Musicians Contest. The concerts are prepared in collaboration with the national RTV station, which records the performances, thus contributing to the young musicians' recognition.

Festive December is a series of events, organized by Festival Ljubljana to enliven the holiday spirit in the capital. Shorts concerts are given in the Križanke Knight's hall by Ljubljana music school students.

The Summer Festival's program has also been enriched with the International Fine Arts Colony where many artists gather in the noble milieu of Plečnik's Križanke. The artists have been inspired by the architectural tradition of Jože Plečnik and by various art events of the Festival.

The central stages of the Festival events remain the summer theatre in Plečnik’s Križanke, Ljubljana Castle, Cankarjev dom and the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall.

Festival Ljubljana is a member of a renowned international organization of the European Festival Association with headquarters in Gent, Belgium, which unites more than 100 festivals and 13 national festival associations. Festival Ljubljana has been a member of this organization since 1977, and the Festival's director Darko Brlek is the president of the Association.
